Eating disorders are often a way of dealing with underlying personal, emotional and psychological difficulties. They can begin at any age, but usually begin in adolescence.
There are four categories of eating disorders::
- Anorexia Nervosa: This is a emotional disorder that impacts on the mind and damages the body through starvation.
- Bulimia Nervosa:This has behaviours such as vomiting, laxatives, diuretics or excessive exercise in an effort to lose weight.
- Binge eating can be a way of coping with emotional difficulties – including boredom, loneliness, anxiety etc – providing a way of avoiding thinking about the real issues.This particular disorder leads to overweight
- Biological factors such as hormonal or chemical imbalances
